History of the Parish Community
Rogoz is a village in the southern part of Maramureș County, located along the Lăpuș River near the town of Târgu Lăpuș, to which it is administratively subordinate. The village was first documented in 1488 under the name Rogoz, with subsequent toponyms being variations of this. The history of the locality is linked to that of the Ciceu Fortress, within whose domain it was included, and which was also owned by Moldavian rulers such as Stephen the Great and his descendants.
The Rogoz Parish is part of the Lăpuș Archdiocese. In the 18th century, it belonged to the Chiuești Archdiocese, and in the following centuries, it was part of the Solnoc II and Cetatea de Piatră Archdioceses.
The “Nativity of the Mother of God” Church was built of brick between 1995 and 2010, with dimensions of L=26m and W=14m. The building has a trefoil plan, with rectangular lateral apses and a polygonal recessed altar. The nave features a central tower with an octagonal flared dome covered in sheet metal. The lateral apses are topped with dome-shaped roofs, while the western side has two bell towers integrated into the nave, with pyramidal roofs also covered in sheet metal. The construction of the church was overseen by Priest Chirilă Ioan. The churchyard includes a bell tower with a summer altar and a memorial dedicated to fallen heroes.
According to available records, the succession of priests who have served in the parish is as follows:
